Costuming

Weta's award winning specialty costumes don't happen by accident. There is a depth and breadth of knowledge and skills that is absolutely flabberghasting in the costuming department.

Leather, luxurious fabrics, chainmaille. Detailing that will probably never be seen, but on the off-chance that a gust of wind or an improvised move reveals the inner workings of a garment - the lining will be just as authentic.

Authenticity is the guiding light, but ergonomic concerns, wearability, comfort and safety are paramount. Weta's unique Tenzan Chainmaille sprung from a desire to make something that was comfortable to wear on long shoots, but that looked right and behaved believably on camera.

Like everyone at Weta, the costumers are not satisfied until everything they produce has its background story written in scars, blemishes and repairs, so the "distressing" or "breaking down" process is what completes the illusion.
