The television series Secrets at Red Rocks, adapted from New
Zealand author Rachael King’s award-winning novel on Celtic selkie mythology,
was filmed on the beautiful, rugged south coast of Wellington — just minutes
away from our workshop floor. We were approached by director-producer
David Stubbs to create two seal puppets — an adult and an
adolescent — for this locally developed project from Libertine
Pictures. It was important to Stubbs
to present “real” seals for the actors to interact with, and we were thrilled
to get the call to work on this home-grown production.
