In 15-century Transylvania, a medieval warrior makes a deal with a monster that will enable him to defend his country from Ottoman invaders — at the cost of his humanity. An origin story for the classic vampire tale, 2014's action-adventure Dracula Untold, directed by Gary Shore, saw Wētā Workshop help design this gorgeously haunted mythos replete with clouds of bats and craggy castles.
Beyond helping to conceptualise this world, Wētā Workshop was engaged by Academy Award-winning costume designer Ngila Dickson to bring her intricate golden armour designs to life for Sultan Mehmed II (Dominic Cooper), the former brother-in-arms from whom Vlad the Impaler (Luke Evans) seeks independence. We also crafted authentic filigree-inlaid helmets for his elite Janissary corps.
