Our private tour includes everything in the regular Wētā Workshop Experiences Tour, but it is exclusively for your group. With a dedicated guide, you'll enjoy a more intimate experience with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and tailor to your interests — whether you want to dive deeper into specific films, techniques or departments. You can also move at a pace that suits you, without other guests joining the tour.
Tickets also include a free photo keepsake featuring two digital souvenir photos from your tour.
Perfect for families, superfans, small groups or special occasions, as well as team celebrations.
Our tours depart from the Wētā Cave at 1 Weka Street, Miramar, Wellington.
Miramar is located a 20-minute drive from Wellington city centre.
If you need transport, you can book one of our guided transfer tours here.
Getting the bus? Catch the number 2 (Miramar) bus and get off at stop 6240 on Darlington Road. From there it’s a short stroll to the Wētā Cave. Find out more on the Metlink website.
On street parking is free but limited. Please allow ample time to find a car park.
Please check your confirmation email for your arrival time. You can collect your tickets at the Wētā Cave ticketing desk.
Yes and no! Your guide will let you know when you can use your camera. There are certain rooms of our tour space where photography is permitted, however there are some rooms where we ask for you to not take photographs. Wētā Workshop is an active workshop and photography is strictly prohibited in certain areas due to production requirements.
Our tours do give you an exclusive look into the workshop through multiple viewing windows, getting you as close to the magic as possible.

Our tours are currently offered in English, with translated tours also available on our app in French, and simplified Chinese. Download the app instore on arrival or ask our team for assistance.
Wētā Workshop is a fully operational workshop, and there are some hazards that make entering our workspace unsafe. Also, because we’re working our movie magic behind the scenes, we’re unable to take you onto the workshop floor itself.
Our tours do give you an exclusive look into the workshop through multiple viewing windows, getting you as close to the magic as possible!
Absolutely—children love the magic of
movies! Though just a heads up–some images on our tour do showcase horror
films.
Our tours are wheelchair accessible. We also have accessible bathrooms and a mobility parking space available.
