Under a pool of light, a master jeweller leans in. There is no room for approximation here. Everything is placed by hand and judged by an eye trained over a lifetime. This is how the jewellery of Middle-earth was born, and this is how it returns.
As principal jeweller on The Lord of the Rings, working under costume designer Ngila Dickson, she shaped some of the most beloved pieces ever to appear on screen. Her name is Jasmine Watson. She picked up her first carving tools as a child and never put them down.
Her work has been honoured in the Ueno Royal Museum of Japan and shown in galleries across the globe, winning awards and recognition internationally. And for more than 30 years now, her work has adorned some of film and television's most memorable characters.
She forged jewellery and armour for the worlds of Xena and Hercules. She crowned the young heroes of Narnia in silver and mother of pearl. She brought dark glamour to Dracula Untold, delicate artistry to Mulan, and regal splendour to the kings and queens of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
And then there is the work that you will know best, for example: Arwen's crown began as a single drawing of a butterfly wing and became something an elven queen might truly wear; springtime caught in silver. She works the way the masters always have. Deliberately and without compromise. That uncompromising hand is at the bench once more.
Some of you caught the first glimpse at MegaCon in Orlando, where Liv Tyler helped us unveil our replica of the Crown of Arwen. On July 22nd (PDT) at San Diego Comic-Con, we’ll be unveiling the full Master Jeweller's Collection.
