With Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron takes audiences back to Pandora in an immersive new adventure with Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and the Sully family.
We embarked on our journey to Pandora in 2006 on the original Avatar film, and it is has been a profound joy to continue to delve deeper as this extraordinary world has continued to expand. For the second and third instalments in Cameron's epic saga, Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash, which were developed in tandem, Wētā Workshop conceptualised over 18,500 designs. This extensive body of work spanned costumes, props, weapons, vehicles, creatures, world-building and in-world graphics, helping shape the already rich tapestry of Pandora as it introduces new Na’vi clans, new characters and new stories.
Under the guidance of Costume Designer Deborah Scott, Wētā Workshop created more than 3,000 physical costume items for the Avatar sequels, more than 2,000 of which were made for Avatar: Fire and Ash. Combining traditional handcrafting techniques such as flax weaving, wood carving, embroidery and leather tooling with modern technologies, these costumes carry the histories and journeys of the Na’vi, who are intimately connected to their cultures.
A special thank you to Costume Designer Deborah Scott, Property Master Brad Elliott, New Zealand Prop Master Melissa Spicer, Production Designer Ben Procter, Production Designer Dylan Cole, Supervising Art Director Luke Freeborn, New Zealand Supervising Art Director Kim Sinclair, Supervising Art Director Aashrita Kamath, Live-Action Art Director Ben Milsom, Makeup and Hair HOD Sarah Rubano, and to the wonderful James Cameron, Jon Landau, Jamie Landau and Brigitte Yorke.
